Sophomore Service Learning Day
The sophomore service learning day is conducted through the sophomore religious studies courses and focuses on service and reflection. The entire class travels to San Jose by school bus to spend the day volunteering at the Sacred Heart Nativity School, a unique middle school located next to Sacred Heart Church on Willow Street. The group returns to Saint Francis by 2:30 p.m. There is no fee for this immersion retreat and lunch is provided for all participants. Dates for these retreats are scheduled for each course throughout the fall and spring semesters.
The Saint Francis Campus Ministry Team is proud to partner with Sacred Heart Nativity School to develop this program that combines service and reflection with the goal of helping our students learn more about the needs of the poor and grow in a Christian Holy Cross sense of generosity and compassion. This sophomore immersion retreat does not count towards the community service graduation requirement.
The Brothers of Holy Cross have a long tradition of working with the poor. Through this retreat, students share in the Brother’s mission of service. It is our hope that the sophomores gain a new appreciation for the ways in which God loves each of us and in turn calls us to love each other.
