Immersion

A Holy Cross education is a balance between heart and mind, and faith and knowledge. The immersion program delivers this balance. By living and working in poor communities you will experience the people, their history and culture. At the same time, you will put your faith into practice by serving others.

Our immersion program began 11 years ago with one trip to downtown San Jose where we lived for a week with the homeless. From those first 10 students in 1997, we grew to over 120 participants in 2007. This year we anticipate 135 students and faculty to join us on 8 immersions around the world.

Immersions are life-altering experiences that teach our students what it truly means to live faithfully and act justly. By going on immersions, students stretch beyond their “comfort zones” and discover how fulfilling it is to serve those in need. Their firsthand experiences stay with them throughout their lives, and for some, inspires future careers. Students who are juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. Applications are available through Campus Ministry every fall.
