Holy Cross Service Program

This list is intended to aid students in pursuing opportunities for service. Please note - some organizations require a long-term commitment from the volunteer.

Students are invited to contact these organizations to discover if the organization is in need of volunteers to work with their clients. All projects for the Holy Cross Service Program requirement must involve interaction of the Saint Francis student with people who are in some way disadvantaged (by age, economics, physical or mental disabilities etc.)

These projects include a wide variety of opportunities that will fit into the core project area, as well as the additional service requirements. Often a listing will be under one heading, but may provide additional opportunities (i.e. Emergency Housing Consortium is listed under "economically poor,” but opportunities to work with "children" are also available.)

Students are required to call to arrange an appointment. Students are recommended to contact the agencies in the summer or early in the school year to arrange service. Often there is an interview and an orientation to the facility. Students must be on time and work at the convenience of the agency. Agencies are not obligated to facilitate last minute calls.

When working with any program where there is ongoing contact with the same clients (i.e. children's programs, elderly), it is imperative that the students realize the obligation to be reliable about attendance. Relationships are formed and the clients are often very disappointed when the student does not "show up.”

By suggesting these agencies, we in no way guarantee any results. It is solely up to the student to investigate possibilities and ask questions. Student is responsible to make sure they get involved with a project that puts them in direct contact with clients.
