A Gift of Securities
A donor that owns appreciated securities can benefit in two ways by making a gift of securities to Saint Francis High School. First, they will be able to claim a charitable income tax deduction for the full value of the shares and second, they will be able to avoid the capital gains tax that would have been due if they sold the shares. When making a gift of securities, it is important that you arrange for a direct transfer of your securities to Saint Francis High School and not sell them yourself. Use the Stock Transfer Instructions available for download to the right to help facilitate the transfer, or contact the Saint Francis High School Development Office.
A matching gift by your company or organization extends your generosity by adding the matching amount to your own gift at no additional expense to you. It is easy to make a matching gift. Simply:
- Contact your Human Resources Department and inquire about your company's matching employee donations policy.
- Follow the procedure they recommend.
- Designate Saint Francis High School as your gift recipient.
Establish a Memorial or Tribute
Your gift to the Saint Francis High School Endowment may be made in memory, or in honor of someone. The amount of your gift becomes part of the principal of the Endowment and is never touched. The interest generated from the principal is used for our Tuition Assistance Program. A memorial of $1,000 or more may be commemorated with an engraved plate that becomes part of the Celebration of Life Plaque located at Higgins Hall. Memorials or tributes that accrue to $10,000 and more are tracked and annual disbursements are made as designated scholarships. Additional information on Endowed Scholarships and Grants is available for download to the right.
To establish a memorial or tribute, or to make a gift to an existing Perpetual Memorial, print, complete and mail the Endowment Form that is available for download to the right to the Saint Francis High School Development Office, or contact the Development Office.
A Gift of Real Estate
Real estate held more than 12 months can be contributed to Saint Francis High School, entitling the donor to an income tax deduction based on the current, appraised value. In addition, the donor also avoids a potential capital gains tax on the property. The Saint Francis High School Development Office can help with this transfer. It is advisable to consult with your attorney and accountants prior to making a gift of this type.
Through Planned Giving, donors can incorporate meaningful gifts to Saint Francis High School in a thoughtful, organized manner intended to coordinate the donor's philanthropic objectives with his or her overall estate and financial plan.
In most cases, planned gifts not only benefit Saint Francis, but can benefit the donor, as well. This is because many planned gifts can be structured to allow the donor to retain income from, or the use of, the "gifted" property during his or her lifetime. Planned gifts can also be structured to reduce, and in some cases, eliminate income, capital gains and estate taxes.
Our motto at Saint Francis High School is "to educate the hearts and minds to serve the world." Even seemingly modest bequests can make a meaningful contribution to this vision. The Saint Francis Development Office would be pleased to discuss with you, or your accountant or attorney, the variety of ways to include Saint Francis in your estate or financial planning through one or more planned gifts.
