Speech and Debate team collects wins

Posted February 11

The Speech and Debate team continued their winning ways this past weekend when they competed against 122 schools at the prestigious Stanford Debate Tournament. Zack Hargis (2010), fresh off of a successful January where he won two tournaments, placed 3rd in Speech.

The junior team of Peter Nauka and Aakash Ghai had a solid tournament as they made it to the play-off round of 32 and the team of Jalal Buckley (2009) and Roxanna Haghaighat (2011) made it to the play-off round of 16. Buckley and Haghaighat, who won the James Logan Tournament, received an invitation to the prestigious National Tournament of Champions for their performance.

Finally, the team of Sejal Parekh (2009) and Chander Ramesh (2010) advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament and were one win away from the championship round. Parekh and Ramesh, who won the James Logan Tournament knocked off the #5 debate team in the nation in the quarterfinals, also won an invitation to the Tournament of Champions. Their spring should be busy as they will be competing in the state and national tournaments.

Congratulations goes out to the Lancer speech and debate teams and to coaches Doug Dennis, Karen Dunbar and J.P. Nelson.
