BRIC Brothers attend MV Mayor's Youth Conference

Posted November 3

Nearly 20 members of BRIC Brothers attended the Mountain View Mayor’s Youth Conference to find out more about how to confront and combat prejudice and biases.

The youth forum brought teens from several Mountain View high schools to City Hall last week, and through the sessions, the students learned steps to take so they don’t judge others too quickly.

“I became more aware of what I do subconsciously,” senior David Villanueva said.

The BRIC Brothers who attended the conference hope to teach what they discovered to the rest of their club members. They say that if they can set a good example in setting aside their biases and responding to prejudice, the rest of the school can learn from them as well.

“We have the power to make our own choices,” junior Andrew Nguyen said. “If we treat people as individuals instead of characterizations, it can up different relationships.”
