Club tours medical device company

Posted December 16

Last Friday, December 13, the Science and Engineering Club attended a tour at a medical device company called Second Source Medical. Mr. Ross Tsugita, the founder of Second Source Medical, gave an informative presentation on the innovation of biomedical engineering and the techniques used for design and manufacture of biomedical devices. He explained in detail the methodology of inventing these high-tech devices, showing examples of pen-and-paper brainstorming, 3D computer generated models, and eventual synthesis of the final product. Students were astounded by the state-of-the-art machinery used to manufacture these products and learned about the challenges and rewards of the field of bioengineering.

“It was interesting to see the topics we had talked about in physics class, like fiber optics, used in real life,” said senior Albert Zhang.

The Science and Engineering Club is planning to have more tours during the second semester of this school year, including a tour to the Stanford Particle Accelerator Lab.
