Honing leadership skills

Posted September 21

Several students were selected to be delegates at various conferences this summer. These opportunities gave the students hands-on experiences in leadership, government and environmental issues. Students were grateful for these camp experiences that expanded their horizons and allowed them to meet like-minded peers from other schools.

Girls State and Boys State: Rhea Patil and Karan Warrier

These two separate conferences, organized by the American Legion, allow participants from all over California to take part in a mock state government. Students run for various offices and make decisions that impact their constituencies.

This conference makes students aware of humans’ interdependence on their surroundings. Topics covered often include land management and our relationship with our resources. This conference is also organized by the American Legion.

Camp RYLA: Nicholas Keyes, Ally Nguyen, Bryant Vu, Nicole Vu

Organized by the Rotary Club, this youth camp focuses on leadership and personal development. Students are chosen for their leadership potential and at the conference, they discuss leadership skills and practice using their skills.
