BRIC Brothers attend nonviolence conference

Members of BRIC Brothers attended the 8th Community Nonviolence Conference at Santa Clara University and left with newfound strategies they can use to build an environment of peace, starting with themselves.

At the youth leadership summit, BRIC Brothers learned how they can focus on themselves so that they can manage their stress in a healthy way. Because just one person can diffuse a situation, they learned about self-control and small actions they can take.

“Instead of looking at the global picture, like gangs or bullying, I learned that you have to start with yourself,” junior Brian Lee said. “You can’t give what you don’t have.”

The BRIC Brothers say what they took away from the conference has so many applications in their daily relationships with friends, teammates and even parents.

The conference was an interfaith event, with numerous religious leaders in attendance. Their presence made an impact on senior Vip Bhatnagar.

“Everyone came for the same cause,” he said. “There are so many differences between people, yet we’re still so similar.”
