Two seniors selected to serve on Interact district board

Two seniors who are board members of the Saint Francis Interact Club have received big appointments to serve on the Interact district board.
Interact is a high school service club, and Saint Francis is part of Interact District 5170, the largest and most active district in the world. It stretches from Dublin to Santa Cruz and from Gilroy to Palo Alto. Lancers Nicole Vu and Ally Nguyen will work with hundreds of high school students in Interact clubs throughout this region.
All Interact clubs contribute to a fundraising goal set for the year, and Nicole’s job as an area leader will be to manage the school funds under her watch and make sure each school is raising its share. Ally’s job as an events coordinator is to create district fundraisers and Day of Service events for members to perform community service.
Both Nicole and Ally are excited about their expanded responsibilities for the year and say that being a part of Interact at Saint Francis has allowed them to grow as individuals. For Ally, working with Interact members has been a source of inspiration, as each person strives to live out the motto of Interact and the Rotary Club, its parent organization, of “service above self.” For Nicole, working on the International Project, a yearlong fundraising effort, had been the most impactful. From working to eradicate polio to supporting global youth programs, she said it’s gratifying to be part of a larger cause.
“When India announced that they were polio-free, knowing that we were a part of that is cool,” she said.
