With a tenacious spirit, leukemia survivor junior Tanvi Varma wants to make sure that researchers are able to develop a cure for cancer. She and 50 of her friends and supporters have raised $10,000 toward leukemia research by taking part in a two-mile walk in Palo Alto.

Saint Francis marine biology students learn about protecting fragile ecosystems, but they have seen how their hands-on efforts in restoring habitats can have a real-world application. The data students have collected on sand crabs was used in the government’s case against the Cosco Busan, the cargo ship that crashed into the Bay Bridge in 2007.
