Coach of the year: Mike Mitchell; Football players honored by Mercury News, WCAL

In his 14th and final season as the Lancers' coach, Mitchell gave more input to offensive coordinator Nick Navarro and defensive coordinator Matt Scharrenberg. Still, Mitchell was the emotional leader of the team, which dedicated its season to winning a title for the departing coach. The Lancers improved from a 3-6-1 team to an Open Division finalist that nearly beat Bellarmine for the title. Mitchell ends his career with a 99-61 record. Ana Homayoun ’97 offers ways to help students succeed

A good surprise can pack so much power. The eve of St. Francis-Mountain View’s showdown with Bellarmine- San Jose in the Central Coast Section Open Division championship game, Lancers quarterback Kyle Miller and the rest of his teammates were wrapping up their last practice of the year when they got the surprise of their lives.

Choirs perform in Christmas concert

In their first performance in the Performing Arts Center, choir students entertained a packed audience Wednesday night with pieces that ranged from classical to contemporary styles, several of them being holiday songs from different cultures. The concert also featured the Saint Francis string ensemble and a Christmas sing-along.

Drama students put on children’s theater
