ASB President's Welcome
Welcome, Lancers of the past, the present, and the future. My name is Maggie Troedson, your
student body president. Here at Saint Francis, it feels as if there are hundreds of ways to get
involved. Over my four years, I have tried tons of different things, including gymnastics,
Christmas Club, student government and everything in between. Although all of these extra-
curricular programs are very different experiences, I have loved each and every one of them.
I am not exactly an athletic gal, but I have been on three sports teams and never felt like I did not
belong there. I’m not an outstanding actress either, but was a part of the Christmas Club Comedy
and felt like a celebrity. Like many of my classmates, I feared signing up for these things
because I didn’t have much experience or success in them in the past. But, I knew that in order to
squeeze as much out of St. Francis as possible, I would have to try to get involved in a variety of
things. With almost 70 clubs and programs on campus, it’s pretty easy to find something that will
provide a home for you in Lancerland.
Students often say that Saint Francis is their second home and there are weeks when I spend
more time on campus than I do at home. Football Fridays, school dances, Thursday night Café
Mots, or Night of Acoustics are just a few of the events that make our school so great.
Needless to say, I could write a novel about the different things there are to do at our school. At
1885 Miramonte Avenue, it’s difficult to say you can’t be involved in something you love. If you
love football but aren’t a player, you can join the spirit squad, spirit commission, be a yell leader,
or just cheer in the Rage Cage. If you love theater, you can take drama class, join the Christmas
Club, audition for the shows, or do tech for them. Whatever it is, don’t be afraid to be a part of it.
Like I said before, squeeze what you can out of St. Francis while you can. When life hands you
Saint Francis, make lemonade.
