November 26, 2019 Alumni,
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and I will enjoy the holidays even more in my new role as a grandpa. My growing family is looking forward to our favorite family traditions more than ever. I hope you will have opportunities to gather with family and friends as well. And I hope you know that you continue to be an important part of the Lancer family and we welcome your participation in several Saint Francis traditions.
Celebrate the holidays with your Lancer family at the Saint Francis Christmas At Our House Winter Wonderland. The Boutique has free-admission hours on Friday, December 6th from 1:30 - 5:00 pm and Saturday, December 7th from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm. Alumni are invited to purchase tickets for the Friday night CAOH Happy Hour Party or the Saturday Festive High Tea. Visit our CAOH page for additional information, to purchase tickets before they sell out or to see volunteer opportunities. I hope to see you there!
For many Lancers, the Alumni Basketball games are as important a Thanksgiving week tradition as the turkey dinner! Bring your family and come cheer your fellow Lancers at games on Wednesday, November 27th. The girls varsity team tips off at 6:00 pm followed by boys at 7:30 pm in our Alumni Gym. If you have not been on campus recently, plan to come early to enjoy the Alumni Walk of Fame. Seeing the nostalgic photos will transport you back to your days as a student.
Alumni are also invited to attend Lancer Tank, a Saint Francis pitchfest competition, on Tuesday, December 10th at 5:30 pm. SFHS Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship students will present their startup ideas in front of a panel of accomplished judges. Information on the event is available at sfhs.com/lancertank.
Bring the family to the 42nd Annual Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade on Sunday, December 1st at 6:00 pm and enjoy appearances by the Saint Francis marching band. You can also enjoy seasonal performances by Lancer performing arts groups. The Winter Band Concert on December 11th features highlights from the Concert, Symphonic and Jazz groups. The Winter Choir Concert on December 12th showcases the Chamber Choir, Women's Ensemble, and String Ensemble, along with Glee and A' Cappella ensembles. Both performances begin at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center.
Thank you to all who participated in the SF vs. Bells Bocce Ball Tournament, including sponsors, volunteers, players, and fans. The Bocce Ball Tournament photo gallery proves that Lancers know how to win, they know how to have fun, and they know how to step up and help others in need. Funds raised from the event will benefit Lancer students in need of tuition assistance.
This is also a time when we rally together to help others in need. We hope you will advance our founding Brothers' mission to provide a Holy Cross education for students of all backgrounds by including Saint Francis students in your giving considerations. Join the viral #GivingTuesday movement on Tuesday, December 3rd by giving to support our students. Inspire others to join the generosity wave by sharing your support on social media channels using the hashtag #LancersGive. Thank you for investing in the life of a student! There's no better Lancer tradition than helping others!
Another way Lancers can help Lancers is by offering networking and career opportunities. We recently heard from two young Saint Francis alumni looking to network with other Lancers. Cristina Serrano '19 is majoring in neuroscience at Santa Clara University and is seeking an internship or other opportunity in the medical field. Alexander Jimenez '15, graduate of UC San Diego is pursuing a masters in finance in the UK and exploring a career in private equity. Email me if we can connect you with either of these impressive alumni.
Lastly, homecoming is a longstanding favorite Lancer student tradition. I'm happy to share this SF homecoming week YouTube video, produced by Lancer Productions Club students. The video demonstrates Lancer spirit and may just ignite some fun memories from your days on campus. Enjoy!
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving and many opportunities to enjoy your favorite holiday traditions.
