Alumni,
Bringing hope to others has always been an important part of our Holy Cross heritage - especially right now. There are many examples of that mission in action throughout this Saint Francis community. Compassionately and enthusiastically, SFHS educators are providing remote learning, including online instruction at regularly scheduled times of the day to all of our students.
The Campus Ministry, Counseling, Activities and Athletics departments are creatively offering reimagined high school experiences for our students. Students are lifting their classmate's spirits using social media to connect one-on-one or in groups. And Lancer alumni and parents are offering physical and emotional support for those facing hardships. I am always proud of this community, but especially now as I see so many Lancers bringing hope to others during this challenging time.
The Alumni Association wants to help young alumni that are currently home from college. Do you have time to talk about your profession? If so, we have added a new section to the Alumni website called Mentors and Internships. If you would like to be a mentor/mentee, please email me your name, contact information, and career or industry and we will post your information there. Some examples that we have received so far are a Berkeley student studying bioengineering wants to learn about careers in biotech. A University of Chicago student is interested in data science, including jobs in quantitative finance, systems engineering, software development, and machine learning. And a Sonoma State student's business interests include real estate, sales, marketing, financial planning, banking or the wine industry. Please email me if you can talk about these or any other careers to help young alumni who are displaced from their college campuses.
This is also a great time to join or take advantage of networking opportunities through the Saint Francis High School Alumni LinkedIn Group. Please share articles that may be interesting (or write some yourself) and post them to the Alumni LinkedIn group. We are trying to make this a destination for alumni to stay connected and get advice. Also - please feel free to post job opportunities or internships to the LinkedIn Group when your company has openings.
For those working on the frontlines during the battle against coronavirus, is there a noteworthy article about your company or work (or that of a fellow Lancer) that you can share on our LinkedIn page? We'd love to read helpful and interesting information and we'd love to celebrate successes achieved by Lancers. Thank you to Carla Vaccarezza Bass '00 who recently posted a Forbes article "Managing Your Career During The Coronavirus Crisis." Our LinkedIn page has a message from San Jose State Football Coach Brent Brennan '91, joined by Stanford's coach, David Shaw and Cal's coach, Justin Wilcox.
Reunion alumni from the Classes of '60, '70, '80, '90, '00, or '10, it's time to get nostalgic and have some fun. Get those old yearbooks and albums and share your favorite throwback photos on facebook while tagging our Saint Francis High School (Mountain View) Alumni Facebook page. You can also email them to me and I'll post them for all to enjoy. There's no better way to spread the word and ignite excitement for the September 12th event. You'll soon receive Grand Reunion '20 save-the-date notifications. Since we don't have all alumni addresses and emails, spread the word to as many classmates as you can and ask them to update their contact info at sfhs.com/alumniconnect.
Lancer social media are great follows! Check out our alumni @SFHSalumni and school @SFHSLancers twitter feeds and our websites (sfhs.com, sfhs.com/alumni, or sfhsathletics.com) for info and entertainment. School pride and community were celebrated during Lancer spirit week, including theme days, the band's zoomed fight song, and a viral alma mater. You'll see teachers in action, clubs and activities in session, and SF teams staying fit. Don't miss our JV girls lacrosse team showing their stick skills with a highly coveted object to the beat of MC Hammer's "Can't touch this."
Thank you for the many ways you bring hope to others. With shutdowns, our campus doesn't have the normal youthful energy. Thankfully, because of this great community, Saint Francis is full of activity, triumphs and, most of all, hope.
Our tradition continues… Go Lancers!Alumni,
