April 30, 2020 - 3:00 pm Community Update Dear Saint Francis Families,
Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker Friday, May 1st is the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker, also designated as Religious Brothers Day, where we celebrate the vocations of religious brothers and their many contributions to our Church through important ministries worldwide. It is a very important day for our Holy Cross schools especially this year as we are celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the Brothers of Holy Cross (originally founded as the Brothers of Saint Joseph by Fr. Jacques Dujarie in 1820). In honor of this 200th anniversary, and in deep gratitude for the leadership and humble dedication of the Brothers who founded and have served as educators at Saint Francis, we will be offering the celebration of Mass (online), which will be posted on our website tomorrow. We encourage you to join us for Mass, and to keep the Brothers of Holy Cross in your prayers on this important Feast Day.
May Calendar Due to our removal of final exam week, the last day of classes for the 2019-20 school year will be Thursday, May 21st. The schedule for the week of May 18th is below, with May 21st being the last assignment due date. The month of May is a particularly important one for our senior class, and tomorrow we will be emailing seniors and their parents a special update on year-end events and celebrations specific to the Class of 2020. We invite all of our students to tune in for our Senior Honors and Transition assembly on May 8th, and we will share details for how to access the assembly virtually next week.
Returning Materials and Collecting Belongings As is the case at the end of any school year, students have materials to return to school (library materials, iPads, uniforms, art supplies) as well as belongings from athletic lockers they need to collect. We are working on coordinating pick-up and drop-off days with appropriate social distancing measures in place during the week of May 25th. The Athletic Department will be in touch separately regarding delivery of equipment and apparel orders. Thank you for your patience as we seek to consolidate the delivery and return of many items while maintaining the safety and health of everyone.
Planning for Fall 2020 Next week, our newsletter on May 4 will include important information and updates to help prepare for the summer and upcoming school year. We continue to work on a number of creative solutions to help support our educational program in light of anticipated physical distancing restrictions. We are so excited to have our Lancer family back on campus, and also recognize what that looks like will be slightly different from the opening of school in years past. Please be assured that we will prioritize the health and safety of our students and educators in every scenario, while ensuring we are able to provide our students with the highest quality Holy Cross education available. We are grateful for the many educators who are working diligently to plan for a successful 2020-21 school year.
