“Education is the art of helping young people to completeness.... How we educate the mind will change with the times: how we cultivate the heart is and will remain timeless.”
-Blessed Basil Moreau
SFThrive Advisory is a key component of the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program at Saint Francis High School. SEL is comprised of several key competencies that relate to students' relationships with themselves, those around them, and the broader community. Each freshman student will be matched with an advisor to help foster development of the five competencies by practicing seven foundational skills.
All freshman students will meet virtually with their advisors as part of their school day schedule. The advisory period will provide instruction in the SEL competencies and opportunities to learn about, develop, and practice foundational social-emotional skills. Development of SEL skills has been shown to lead to a number of positive outcomes, including higher resilience, increased empathy, better peer and adult relationships, and better coping skills. Advanced demonstration of the SEL skills will indicate students' eventual mastery of the core social-emotional competencies.
