Learning in the 21st Century
In partnership with Imagine Learning, Summer at Saint Francis offers flexible online high school courses, including college-preparatory core classes, in a wide range of subject areas, with most courses UC/CSU and NCAA approved. Classes provide interactive, media-rich educational opportunities in a flexible, student-centered learning environment to a diverse population of learners. Online teachers assess, give feedback, and are available for appointments however they do not teach the course live. This is an asynchronous learning platform. In person final exams are required if you are taking the course for credit.
About Imagine Learning
Registering for Summer Online Courses through
Imagine Learning
Student can take online classes for credit: a transcript showing advancement or remediation.
Students may also take online classes for enrichment: no transcript and the semester course may be extended beyond 3-weeks.
Term A versus Term B:
Courses in Term A represent the first semester of a course, while Courses in Term B represent the second semester. You need both Term A and Term B courses for credit of a full-year. You may select Term A or Term B of a course independently if it is for remediation.

For a full description of the courses, please see Imagine Learning's Course Catalog. Summer at Saint Francis only offers the courses listed below*. We do not offer the full scope of those listed in the Course Catalog.
*in person courses for math and science need to fill before online courses will be opened for registration.
In Person Final Exams Required for Credit
Students must receive at least a 60% on the proctored in person final exam to pass the course. Students will have 2-hours to complete the online final. Refer to Schedule / Pacing for dates.
An in person proctored online exam at Saint Francis is required for all online courses for credit. No exceptions will be made for proctored exams away from Saint Francis High School aside from documented illness.
Final exams are not required for students taking the course for enrichment.
NCAA Eligibility
The NCAA requires that students using online courses take summer courses of the following length and rigor:
- at least 3-weeks / 21 days per semester course
- limited to 2 different subjects total (ie., Spanish 1 and Algebra 1 can be at same time)
- no courses taken sequentially at the same time (ie: Spanish 1A and Spanish 1B may not at the same time)
- no courses labelled "credit recovery" (ie., Algebra 1A CR should be replaced by Algebra 1A)
- students must complete the full course to receive credit from the NCAA, credit recovery versions are not approved by the NCAA
Saint Francis Students
- Trigonometry through Imagine Learning is our online option for advancing to AP Precalculus. This online course will open in April when the in person Trigonometry registration also opens.
- To remediate Exercise Science, take Anatomy and/or Health Science Concepts (verify NCAA and UC/CSU eligibility on the course list below.)
- SFHS students need approval from the Summer High School Principal to take an online lab science course or an online math course for remediation. This request is rarely granted.

**Summer at Saint Francis offers these science courses in person. Online offerings for these courses will be published when in person sections have filled. Trigonometry will open in April for online or in person registration.

Asynchronous Online Learning with Imagine Learning
Imagine Learning courses are asynchronous, and available 24-7. If you are taking a semester-long course, you will have 3-weeks to complete it. If you want to take the course for enrichment only, you may have up to 9-weeks to complete the course (email our office for an extension). The courses are video-based instruction with embedded assignments, quizzes, and tests. Students are expected to work 4-5 hours daily in order to keep pace with these online courses.

Flat Cost: $40 / hour

Summer at Saint Francis offers this tutorial program to help students achieve their academic goals while completing our rigorous college preparatory curriculum over the summer. This tutorial program allows students to schedule one-on-one meetings with our Teacher's Assistants, college undergraduates majoring in the subjects they provide tutoring, most of whom grade the quizzes and tests that summer students take. Tutors can offer help with homework, preparation for an upcoming assessment, or review of previous curriculum. Tutoring sessions as short as 15 minutes can be scheduled online using the below form. One tutoring session is scheduled per form submission.
