Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)

DAFs have become an increasingly popular way for donors to make contributions. Most investment firms have a DAF program where you can establish a philanthropic fund, plan for taxes, invest your funds, and designate your gift for a later date. Saint Francis receives many DAF gifts each year, and we would be glad to work with you and your advisor.

Request a matching gift from your employer. Did you know that some companies will even match gifts from retirees and employee's spouses? Some will also match volunteer hours with a monetary donation.

Give appreciated securities - i.e. stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds that have realized significant appreciation over time. This is one of the most tax-beneficial ways to give. The two key advantages:

• Any long-term appreciated securities with unrealized gains (meaning they were purchased over a year ago and have a current value greater than their original cost) may be donated and provide tax deduction for the full fair-market value of the securities.
• Since the securities are donated rather than sold, capital gains taxes from selling the securities no longer apply.

Arrange for a direct transfer to the broker for Saint Francis High School and do not sell them yourself. Please refer to the Stock Transfer Instructions for details.

Include Saint Francis in your estate plan. Through planned giving, donors can incorporate meaningful gifts to Saint Francis High School in a thoughtful, organized manner intended to coordinate the donor's philanthropic objectives with his or her overall estate and financial plan.

Planned gifts not only benefit Saint Francis, but can benefit the donor, as well. This is because many planned gifts can be structured to allow the donor to retain income from or the use of the "gifted" property during his or her lifetime. Planned gifts can also be structured to reduce, and in some cases, eliminate income, capital gains and estate taxes.
