A Cappella Exchange
Guacapella, the Saint Francis a capella group, hosted their counterparts from Bellarmine, the Fortissibros, for an afternoon of rich harmonies and blended voices.
Senior Clarissa Chen wanted to strengthen the a capella community between high schools and share music with each other. Last spring she organized an a cappella festival called Acaparty that featured many high school groups, including the Fortissibros. She followed that up this semester with an a cappella exchange and invited Bellarmine. The two groups performed for each other and came together for an impromptu session of Christmas carols.
Through the exchange, both groups celebrated each other’s accomplishments. For many members of the Fortissibros, it was their first time performing for a live audience, while Guacappella learned that they advanced to the quarterfinals of the International Championship of High School A Cappella.
“We wanted to elevate each other’s programs by coming together, learning from each other, and feeding off of each other’s excitement for a cappella,” said Clarissa. “We look forward to many more joint collaborations and concerts in the spring and future.”
