Lancers help in coastal cleanup efforts
Joining thousands from throughout the state in cleaning up beaches and waterways, a contingent from Saint Francis served their community and volunteered to rid a local creek of litter on California Coastal Cleanup Day.
Led by Ms. Liem, students and educators cleaned up Penitencia Creek in San Jose. They picked up bicycle parts, plastic bags and bottles, cigarette butts, clothing and more. Along the way, they also came across a boxing glove, a computer speaker and a laptop.
“I love the ocean and anything we can do to pick up litter on land will help prevent ocean pollution,” said Ms. Liem. “I thought it might be great to invite students to join me, and it was! I hope we can do this every year.”
