Paying Tribute to Capt. Manoukian ’01
Today, on Veterans Day, students in Mr. McGarry’s religion class heard directly from family members of a Lancer Marine who was killed in Afghanistan.
Capt. Matthew Manoukian ’01 was killed in combat in 2012. His father, Hon. Socrates Pete Manoukian, and his uncle, Bill Bamattre, shared with students about Matthew’s life and legacy. They spoke about the impact Matthew had during his four tours of duty and the relationships he forged with the locals.
Both Hon. Manoukian and Mr. Bamattre urged students to consider their roles as the next generation of leaders.
“You’re all capable of doing wonderful things for others — that’s Matt’s story,” said Hon. Manoukian.
Saint Francis honors Matthew’s life each year in February with the Capt. Matthew Patrick Manoukian Memorial Crab Feed, which raises money for an endowed scholarship established in his name.
