Saint Francis welcomes a new cohort of educators starting this fall. They officially began their work with a socially distanced retreat, but many of them have been working virtually side by side with their departments through the summer.
James McGarry comes to Saint Francis with incredible experience as a Catholic educator at St. Ignatius and Mercy High School. Mr. McGarry is renowned for his commitment to justice, his compassion and care for students and his interest in cross-curricular connections, and we are glad to now call him a Lancer. He will serve as an advisor and will be teaching Social Justice, Moral Issues and World Religions.
Hannah Crowder joins Saint Francis in her move to California from Washington. Ms. Crowder has taught science in the U.S. and in London and particularly loves helping 9th graders develop their love for science and the skills necessary to excel in the future. Ms. Crowder will teach Biology and Conceptual Physics and will be an advisor.
Paul Bourke joins the Lancers to teach junior and senior English, and he will coach basketball. After many years at Saint Ignatius in San Francisco, Mr. Bourke brings his expertise and energy to Saint Francis and looks forward to teaching on the peninsula and continuing his work as a Catholic school educator.
Shraddha Chaplot comes to Saint Francis with many years of engineering experience and will teach Design Thinking and will mentor Independent Inquiry students. Ms. Chaplot has designed and run makerspaces and will coordinate our Innovation and Industry program. Ms. Chaplot will also moderate our South Asian Student Affinity Group.
Narciso Bernardo brings his educational experience from his time at Moreau Catholic, his faith, his enthusiasm, and his understanding of youth from his time at Moreau Catholic and Holy Cross roots to our freshman and sophomore religion classes.
Carly Deale ‘16 returns to Saint Francis with degrees in math and education to teach Algebra 2 and Descriptive Geometry. Ms. Deale has taught math for Summer at Saint Francis in the past few years. She is excited to return to her alma mater. Ms. Deale will also coach volleyball.
Andrea Joslyn ‘05 is a Lancer alum and a popular Freshman Experience English teacher in our summer school. After many years of teaching at Kings’ Academy and encouragement from her Saint Francis family to teach with us, Andrea returns home to bring her creativity, engagement strategies and expertise to her English 1 and sophomore Religion classes.
Marylynne Rodriguez joins our Guidance & Counseling Department as Chair and a counselor for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Marylynne brings many years of college and personal counseling from her tenure at Presentation and Mitty. She brings amazing insight and energy to her role.
Theresa Elliot comes on board this year as our Learning Specialist. She has extensive experience in working with students with learning differences and is happy to return to Saint Francis. Ms. Elliot worked in our admission office and coached softball years ago before pursuing her degrees and career in education. She will also serve as an advisor.
Back to lend their incredible talents and love for Saint Francis to our community are alumni interns Grant Lucas ‘16 and Courtney Ogren ‘16. Mr. Lucas will teach a section of journalism, participate with Band, and assist in the Social Studies department. Ms. Ogren will teach a section of mindfulness, assist in the Design department and work with marketing.
Joining our staff earlier this summer are Barbara Cole in Accounts Payable, Clay Reynolds with our Custodial Staff and Kimberly Benedetti ‘08 in Marketing. They each bring wonderful purpose and care to their roles. Barbara and Clay joined our staff earlier this summer. Kimberly will be partnering with teachers and students on their use of Adobe tools as well as supporting the efforts of the Communication team.
