Freshman & Sophomore Service Learning Days

The sophomore service learning day is conducted through sophomore religious studies courses and focus on service and reflection. Each religious studies class travels by school bus to spend the day volunteering at HOPE Services in Mountain View, working with developmentally disabled invididuals.  Students must bring a bag lunch and the dress code for this day is jeans, a Saint Francis High School shirt or sweatshirt, and closed toed shoes. The group returns to Saint Francis by 2:30 p.m. There is no fee for this service learning day.  Dates are scheduled for each religious studies course throughout the fall and spring semesters.

This program combines service and reflection with the goal of helping our students learn more about the needs of some of the most marginalized people in our community and to grow in a Christian Holy Cross sense of generosity and compassion. The freshman and sophomore service learning days do not count towards the community service graduation requirement.  The Brothers of Holy Cross have a long tradition of working with the poor and marginalized. Through these service learning days, students share in the Brother’s mission of service.
