Sophomore Mark Salinas and freshman Ekta Karkala have been recognized for their creative expression, winning first and second place in the Rotary Young at Art competition.

Mark and Ekta are students in Ms. Adams’ graphic arts class, which focuses on art created on an iPad. Their work is now on exhibit at a number of downtown Los Altos venues until May 20 and 21, when the Los Altos Rotary Club holds its annual outdoor art show.

Mark Salinas, “Kaiden in the City”

In this piece of art, I was trying to convey the inner thoughts of a person in the middle of a bustling city. The backdrop of the chaotic city is juxtaposed next to the silhouette of the man. This silhouette is filled with an image of a pathway leading to a green tree, symbolizing his want for happiness and nature away from the chaos of the city. The inspiration for this piece is someone I know who always finds a way to find peace and happiness among the chaos.

Ekta Karkala, “ The Magic of Imagination”

Imagination is a very powerful tool, as it inspires creativity and innovation in their best form. Through my artwork, I convey imagination's stunning ability to open the mind to a world of possibility and expression.
