Rob & Cathy Avon
2017 St. André of Montreal Service Award Honorees
Rob and Cathy Avon
Rob and Cathy Avon epitomize what it means to be recipients of the St. André of Montreal Service Award, a tribute given to members of our community who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to our Catholic, Holy Cross mission, by volunteering their time and sharing their talents with the school.
Rob and Cathy first became involved at Saint Francis as eager parents who wanted to support their children’s school and be involved in their activities. Over the years, Cathy was heavily involved with the Women’s Club and eventually served as Women’s Club president. She volunteered with the largest Women’s Club event, Christmas at Our House, and as the chair overseeing for many years the houses on the home tour, she took excellent care of the homes, the homeowners and the volunteer docents. Cathy was also a founding member of Alumni Involved Moms, a social and philanthropic group for moms of SF grads.
Cathy was extremely masterful in planning and executing any event that brought the community together, such as the President’s Dinner. From establishing the ambiance of the event to creating distinctive experiences for guests, no job was ever too small and no challenge too daunting.
For the last six years, Cathy left her mark as a member of the Board of Directors. Because she had so much respect for the mission and work of the Brothers of Holy Cross, she always tried to place herself in their position, reminding herself the Brothers consistently put the needs of students first.
Throughout Cathy’s work at Saint Francis, Rob supported his wife in all that she did, and he understood why her work here was important. As a CPA, his schedule ebbed and flowed with the calendar, but he never used his workload as a reason not to get involved at school functions. The Lancer Auction has traditionally fallen in the middle of his busiest seasons, yet each year, he attended and supported Saint Francis alongside Cathy.
The Avon children — Brian ’99, Jenny ’01 and Beth ’10 — remember how their parents were active in just about every organization they were involved in when they were young, and Saint Francis is grateful Rob and Cathy brought that same enthusiasm here.
