Identity & Change in the Book Thief

In this camp students are asked: How are the historical background and literary themes of the summer reading relevant to me as I begin high school? Students explore how identity impacts both the text and their everyday lives as they explore ideas such as inaction, fear and resilience to prepare them emotionally for their transition to high school.

Note: The text that accompanies this class is The Book Thief which is the summer reading for College Prep English. This class may not be appropriate for students who will be taking honors English.

Campers will cover and report on instructor-provided stories, news events, sports tournaments, and more by interviewing sources and working with one another. By the end of the session, each group of campers will have designed an original publication of their own. It will surely excite and engage students about journalism and help them create lasting bonds before entering high school.
