Early History
In 1954, the Brothers of Holy Cross envisioned a Catholic college preparatory high school in Mountain View. A year later, Saint Francis High School opened with 45 students, introducing the Holy Cross philosophy of educating the whole person.
From its earliest days, Saint Francis emphasized academics, faith, and extracurriculars—launching a band, theater program, student newspaper, and athletics. Rooted in tradition and driven by innovation, Saint Francis continues to develop leaders of character, prepared to serve and succeed in an ever-changing world.
Merger with Holy Cross High SchoolHoly Cross, an all-girls high school founded and staffed by Sisters of Holy Cross, opened in 1957 on Miramonte Avenue, within a mile of Saint Francis High School. In an effort to expand educational programming and facilities and extend the Holy Cross educational mission, the schools joined forces to create a co-educational learning environment serving nearly 1,200 young men and women in 1972. The consolidation of these schools was a catalyst for rapid and significant change on campus, marking the beginning of a new era for Saint Francis. |
