Youth Advisory Committee

I’m pleased to share that applications for the 2026-2027 cohort of the Youth Advisory Committee are now open. This program is designed for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in helping our community tackle challenging regional and national issues. This program will allow students to work collaboratively, meet directly with me and my staff, and hone their analytical and communication skills.  

I know that you share my belief in the importance for our young people to get engaged in our government. I hope you will share this opportunity with your high school juniors and seniors. The application deadline is August 24, 2026 at 5 p.m. PST.

2026 Congressional App Challenge  

Registration for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge is now open! Since 2016, over 50,000 middle and high schoolers across the United States have created apps representing their passions, values, and service to our community. I welcome your students to participate once again this year.  

I invite middle and high school students living in or attending school in the 16th Congressional District to participate.  The program welcomes students of all coding skill levels, including beginners and provides resources to help students learn. Participants may register individually or in teams of up to four and use any programming language (e.g., C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or block code) and any platform (e.g., PC, web, tablet, robot, or mobile device).  

For this year’s challenge, we suggest students create an app that helps residents access vital federal, state, or local benefits and services.  I welcome students to learn more about federal agencies and the App Challenge to inform submissions.  Apps are due on October 26, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
