Shaurya Gulani ’26 gave a TEDx talk at Saint Francis last spring about college applications, and now it has been selected as an Editor’s Pick.

His talk, entitled "Why college applications work (even if you think they won't)", explores how he thinks of college applications as an opportunity for reflection and growth.
“When I get an hour to write my essay, it’s just like meditation to me. It’s self-reflection, thinking about your past and about how everything forms into the story of who you are today and what you want to do,” he said.
He is excited and proud that his talk was selected as an Editor’s Pick because this recognition gives him a bigger platform with which to share his message. Before he stepped on to the TEDx stage, he had been casually giving that same message to his friends at lunch and to his family at gatherings. Audiences have gravitated towards his ideas, he says, because he focuses not on the result of getting into college but on the process of applying and what that can teach you about yourself.
“That's something I don't think is talked about enough,” he said.
Shaurya is grateful that Saint Francis had the resources to let him, and his talk, shine on the stage. From a student audio tech crew that could adjust his mic to a professional theater where all the students gave their presentations, these details contributed to a polished, high-quality recording that elevated his message.
